those people who shout "freedom"
and think that this is the land of the free
who support their government
and would never question its direction
don't know what the government does
to keep us thinking we're free
while subjugating us to the highest bidder
and selling its soul every day

I can't figure out
if I've suddenly become aware
of all that's not quite right
or if this is how it's always been
I hope for the former
but I suspect the latter
never have I felt so oppressed
as I have these past few years
